Imagine waking up from bed….relaxed….after a night of deep sleep… A Sunday Morning perhaps.. A day when the world is apparently not so chaotic.

Waking  up fully refreshed…In a state of what can be called “A clean slate”… for a few moments at-least.. Then there is a memory fetch…about our geographic positioning.. about our name…profession……about our relations and relationships….about memories & interactions…….some fresh…some old…….about joy…about warmth…some pleasant…some unpleasant recollections…Memories…Many of them….

mind-processing

All these come flooding and are imprinted onto the mind…within a fraction of a nano second perhaps!! …and the whiteboard/slate holding all these details is full again…is etched again…and we have found our bearings….our identity…..

the daily memory fetch… after a good nights sleep is depicted below…

What the Fish ....Our identity.. Fish in an Ocean...

What the Fish!!… A Fish in the Ocean…metaphorically put… is what we are!!

Well.. Just imagine what would happen…. that one day we wake up and the memory fetch does not happen??

Do we cease to exist…In a sense we exist..yet in another sense, we exist not….If yes….what exists??

Perhaps the photograph below can help explain in a simpler manner… of what remains in such a scenario

Second… without a memory fetch…Yet something remains…

Is that presence “Consciousness”???… the one without any identity… the one which we are born with… and the one we keep searching in the world of labels and identifications and Religion!! (I am this, I am that.. I am not this but that!!)

Perhaps… for the very first time… the realization dawns in life…that some quality is gained/attained…only by losing something…. Paradoxical indeed, isn’t it ? especially when compared against the backdrop of our societal logical conditioning…

Ponder over it :)

The lack of memory fetch can happen only because of a medical problem or when one is in meditative trance.
Waking up in the mornings is like the door opening to a floodgate of memories when you open your eyes!

Nice post to read and ponder , karthik..
I agree with Radhika on the above mentioned point… Our day generally starts in bed with thoughts like, what day is it, I have to do this and that and ….It goes on and on and on….
